This started the ball rolling from Otto Junior. He sent me this: Otto Eisele" <ottore@juno.com
THis was emailed to the USI website.
My dad Joe DeVito and my uncle Albert Marquet, rode in the 6 day bike races of the late 1920's and '30's and remained active riders all their lives.
I'm seeking information about their contemporaries in bike racing in the 1920's and 30's. My dad died in 1973. My uncle in 1998.
I'd like to connect w/anyone who knew them or of them. I noticed that the Flickr site has photos contributed by Michelle Asarisi. Is Mickie Asarisi her dad?, my dad and uncle knew and rode with him, in addition to Otto Eisele Sr., Alfred Goulet, Teddy Bendi and others.
I have memorabilia and photos I could use help identifying.
Do you have an archive? or a Historian?
I hope you'll reply or pass this onto someone who will. Thanks, I'd be grateful.

Hi Michelle,
Of course we'd love to be able to add any materials you have to our database. I'm the president and the members I copied, Tim the vp, and Maria, whose family like yours helped make USI a wonderful club, have been great help in pulling together historical info.
We are embarking on a website update and we'll be able to share our past with the membership better once we have it set up. It would be terrific to be able to highlight your grandad and the material he collected on the new site.
In the mean time I hope that you are up for scanning and sending as much info as you have time to allow for to Otto so we can start weaving it into what we've collected so far. Between, Tim, Maria and myself we'll send you the work we've done in the last couple of years. We have a nice disc slide show with companion booklet, and brochures from the last two banquets that we'd like to share with you.
Send us your address and we'll get the items in the mail to you.
Thank you very much for getting in touch with us!

hi michelle ... otto forwarded me your email to the USI. how exciting!
i'm pretty sure my dad, angelo settanni knew/cycled with your grandfather, mickey. i will let my mom (she is 87 years old now!) know we have made contact. she will be able to confirm this and may have a story to share with us :)
when you scan the docs/pics please scan them at a 300 dpi.
also, i don't know how many files (pictures, newspaper clippings, race brochures/pamplets) you have but my dad had collected and saved so much i ended up burning many CDs. if you end up scanning as much as i did, to make it easier, save and send the files on a memory stick (they are very cheap now with lots of megs of memory and i'll gladly pay for it). that would be super!
thanks and let's keep in touch!

how cool is this! hi michelle!
what i noticed when i scanned lower than the 300 dpi is they didn't look as good/clear. it was a pain to change the settings on the scanner but it was worth it for me and i think for you too because ....
i'm sure we will want to use at least some of these files you send to add them to our USI centennial DVD (our 100th anniversary was last year, 2008). our goal is to have this DVD done/ready to give out at the USI BBQ in the summer (hope we can do it!). ed (the president of USI) already did a lot of work on the slilde show and we have a "demo" but we are missing some pics/info and there wasn't any music (!) ... and then i got "involved". :)
also, if you don't mind, i would like to send copies of your files to one of our USI members, jeff groman. jeff has a cycling museum in washington state. jeff also has a bike shop, classic cycles and is one of three to put the 6 day bike race DVD and book together that has won several awards. this is what mom and i did with dad's bike stuff and are very happy with this decision. it will be saved this way.
as i get the info (and have the time) i add it to the existing slide show.r dad after i talk to my mom and see what she has to add to our connection. :)
i still have dad's old USI jersey!
yes this is exciting!
